SPECIES DESCRIPTION: Herbaceous perennial growing from a small bulb and spreading to form large drifts. Leaves broad, shiny bright-green. White star-shaped flowers borne in Spring in clusters at the end of a long stem. Found in damp woods, scrub, hedges and on shady banks, where its garlic aroma fills the air when trodden on. All parts of the plant are edible and have a mild garlic flavour.
CULTIVATION: Good for ground cover in a damp, shady corner of the garden. Can become invasive though easy to get rid of by digging or weedkillers.
