DROSERA:

SPECIES DESCRIPTION: An insectivorous plant found growing on boggy moorland usually associated with Sphagnum moss. Insects become trapped by the sticky secretions from the ends of the hairs surrounding the spoon-shaped leaves. The hairs slowly curl inwards engulfing the insect which is then consumed by digestive secretions from the leaves. This adaption enables the plant to survive in acidic waterlogged soil where normal plants are unable to gain nutrition. The leaves are arranged in a rosette against the ground, but in summer white flowers are borne on leafless stalks up to 15cm tall.
